Medical
undergraduates face a huge task in learning enough detail on all the
various clinical topics in order to pass the final exams. Students are
often at a loss to know how much they are expected to cover
and what level of detail is required. First in Medicine uses
the unique approach of providing (in most cases) a
double A4 page outlining key facts on clinical topics (the 'Summary
Sheets'). As these documents are in the early stages of
development, there may be additions / omissions to be made over time.

The notes are an amalgamation of notes from
textbooks, internet resources and hospital teaching. They have
been written by the site owner during his time as a medical student and
as such should hopefully prove to be a useful peer-written resource. As always,
any mistakes contained within the summaries are my own.
We are in the process of recruiting senior reviewers (usually senior
SHOs / SpRs) who are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the
Summary Sheets. They are also given the task of making the
notes as clinically ‘life-like’ as possible (eg treatment sections:
unlike textbooks that simply provide a list of possible treatment
options, First in Medicine aims to provide facts that reflect what
actually happens on the wards). Sections that have a senior reviewer
are clearly marked and with time, all sections will have a designated
senior reviewer.
